Even though he doesn’t even have a memorable line, he’s still loved worldwide, and many fans want to learn how to draw R2D2.
How to Draw R2D2
Step 1
R2D2 as a character is very detailed, with many small and specific aspects to draw.
This can make a drawing difficult, but we’re making it easier by taking it slow in this guide to drawing R2D2!
To start, let’s first outline R2D2. You benefit from the exact copy of the reference image.
It would help if you also tried to refer to the final and finished reference image we provided so that you can explain all the droid parts.
Using a combination of straight and curved lines, we draw the entire shape of his body, base, and “legs.”
Once we’ve drawn this outline to look like our image, we can start adding the details in the next step to Draw R2D2.
Step 2
Now that you have sketched your R2D2 drawing, we can add the details mentioned.
To do this, we’ll start at the bottom of the droid and work our way up as we work our way through the corridors.
As you draw the base and legs, remember that they are slightly more angular than the cylindrical body.
This means we use a few more straight lines than we did for the body and head.
Use the reference image to guide you; replicate all the lines as they appear, and then you’re ready for step 3 to Draw R2D2!
Step 3
Continuing with this guide on how to draw R2D2, we will finish his legs and add more details to his body.
